Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited, said it is releasing about 13 million litres, approximately 400 trucks of petroleum products including premium motor spirit, popularly called petrol, to ease the scourge of the endemic fuel scarcity that Nigeria had been plunged into.The move has therefore, broken the ranks of oil marketers and depot operators, who have refused to import any more products until their outstanding subsidy claims of over N200billion is paid by the Federal Government.A Statement by Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited states,

Nigeria's Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has said,the claim by Vice President-elect, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, that the Jonathan administration will be leaving a $60 billion debt burden for the in-coming government is false, and that Nigeria’s total debt indeed stands at $63.7 billion but it is the totality of all the debts incurred by successive governments since 1960. She said,”The breakdown of the accumulated domestic stock is $18.575 billion outstanding by 2007, $17.3 billion accumulated between 2008 and 2011 and $18 billion accumulated between 2012 and 2015.“This is so because of something that happened in 2010 because of the salary increment under Yar’Adua administration which increased civil servants salaries by 53 per cent.“Those bonds have been rolled over and government had to weather the difficulties because resources to fund such increase were not there,” she said.She described Nigeria’s debt to GDP ratio as one of the lowest in the world.On the domestic debt stock, she said 20 per cent is owed by state governments with Lagos state having an external debt burden of N1.169 trillion and no $60 billion was accumulated under the Jonathan administration.

While wishing the former governor of Bauchi State, who is on medical treatment abroad, a quick recovery, governor Dickson, said he looks forward to his return back to the country in sound health, to support in the on-going effort to rebuild the party. He thanked Chief Tony Anenih for his years of service to the party.

NIGERIA'S MILITARY FOIL BOKO HARAM ATTACK IN LADI KAYAMLA, MAIDUGARI

The Defence Headquarters on Thursday said that a plot by the terrorist group, Boko Haram, to use two female suicide bombers to cause havoc in Maiduguri was foiled by troops, who successfully dislodged the terrorists,reports online news.The military added that the attack, which was apparently diversionary with the intention of slowing down the ongoing assault on Sambisa forest, was believed to have been carried out by terrorists escaping from their destroyed camp.However, the Director, Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, who confirmed the incident reassured that normalcy had been restored, adding that the army have conducted mop up operation of the area.

According to Transparency In­ternational’s data from 1979 till date, the tenures of both General Muhammadu Buhari and former President Olusegun Obasanjo were more corrupt than the tenure of President Goodluck Jonathan.The data also showed that under the administration of President Jonathan, Nigeria has recorded its best score in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) since 1979. This is in complete contrast to the sordid picture of rampant corruption being painted by the opposition, ardent critics of the Jonathan administration and much of the media in the last few years – especially in the build up to the general elections.But the point that the figures from Transparency International make so clearly is that, in com­parative terms, Nigeria is actually much less corrupt today, and per­ceived globally to be much less corrupt today, than it has been in the last 35 years – including under the regimes of General Buhari and President Obasanjo, both of who wear the toga and chant the man­tra of anti-corruption.

BOKO-HARAM ATTACK ON MAIDUGARI CAUSES MILITARY TO SET CURFEW

Following the deadly attack by Boko Haram on Maiduguri, the Borno state capital Wednesday evening, the Army has imposed a 24 hours curfew on the troubled city,reports have said.Sporadic gunshots and multiple explosions engulfed city from 5pm into the night forcing many residents to flee their homes but were trapped as the military blocked major roads and streets in the metropolis to avoid further attacks by the insurgents.Gusau said, “In view of the recent development within Maiduguri metropolis a 24hr curfew is hereby imposed in the city.This is done to protect lives and property of innocent and law abiding people of Maiduguri.The Nigerian Army wishes to once again thank you for your continuous support and cooperation.The situation is firmly under control” the statement added.

PLOT BY APC TO TAKEOVER RIVERS,AKWA-IBOM,DELTA STATES UNCOVERED CRYS PDP

 

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, raised alarm that the All Progressives Congress, APC, was plotting to take over Akwa Ibom, Delta and Rivers states where the PDP genuinely won,reports have stated. Addressing newsmen in Abuja, yesterday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, raised the alarm, arguing the PDP was ready for the love of the country to put behind it, cases of alleged election malpractices and anomalies that took place in some states in the north.The party, which warned the APC not to take for granted its decision to concede defeat, alleged that the APC was planning to procure and compromise some stakeholders in the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security personnel to doctor electoral materials against the PDP at the tribunal.Metuh, who noted that as a party, it must not be treated as conquered people, however, threatened that it will not accept any move by anybody to manipulate the process and rob it of clear victories in these states or any other state.

The Bayelsa State Government has described as most uncharitable, the comments credited to out-going Senator representing Bayelsa-East Senatorial District, Clever Ikisikpo, during his defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC).The lawmaker had while officially announcing his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alongside other lawmakers with their supporters at the APC national secretariat, said the Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, will soon defect to the APC.But a statement issued on Thursday in Yenagoa by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, berated Senator Ikisikpo over his comments, noting that, the comments were made out of frustration "to dignify his perfidy and robe Governor Dickson into his dubious defection scheme."

Nigerian Ministers to be appointed by Mr. integrity,President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) will on assumption of office receive welcome perks amounting to N9bn each for housing and furniture allowances, reports have said. The perks of office include the housing allowance which each of the incoming office holder is entitled to receive once a year, the furniture allowance which they are entitled to once in four years and motor vehicle loan which they are entitled to once in their tenure.
The perks are some of the non-regular allowances that the political office holders are entitled to as prescribed by the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
There are other allowances, both regular and irregular ones, but housing, furniture and motor vehicle are paid at the beginning of the tenure of the office holders to ensure that they settle down appropriately. N9bn for each minister, while countless Nigerians are jobless and living in abject poverty.Is this the change we were promised?
