BAYELSA PDP DENIES PLANS TO RIG ASSEMBLY POLLS, ACCUSES PRESIDENTIAL AIDE OF MOBILIZING THUGS, SECURITY AGENCIES AGAINST PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Bayelsa State has described as totally false, baseless and misleading, stories making the rounds that, it has perfected plans to rig this weekend’s rescheduled State House of Assembly elections in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government and other areas.

Reacting to a press conference addressed by officials of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, the PDP notes with dismay, the unfounded and unsubstantiated accusations leveled against Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, stating that, the Governor plans to visit the area on election day, with a view to influencing and swaying votes in favour of the PDP candidates.

According to the statement, the PDP has maintained absolute decorum and orderliness in all the elections held so far in the State, noting that, all the cases of violence recorded in the previous elections were all perpetuated by the opposition against the PDP.

While, describing the reports as the figment of the imagination of APGA and the other opposition parties, who know too well that, they cannot win election in a free and fair contest, because of the pedigree of the PDP in the State, rather accused the opposition of planning to arm thugs to scare away voters and rig the elections in favour of their preferred candidates.

The statement also accused an Aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, Hon. Waripamowei Dudafa, who is a native of the area, of planning to mobilize the army and other uniformed security agencies to rig the votes in favour of APGA and other opposition parties under which they are fielding candidates.

It advised the people of Kolokuma/Opokuma local Government Area to be weary of some selfish and self seeking politicians, who because of their desperation and inordinate ambitions, want to deceive them to join the opposition, as that would not be in their collective interest, especially at this critical moment of the nation’s political history.

The statement sees no reason why Bayelsans should tow the line of the opposition, given the outcome of the previous elections in the State, which witnessed resounding victories for the PDP.

The PDP, however, called on its numerous supporters in Kolokuma/Opokuma and the other places, where elections were rescheduled to come out in their numbers and vote the party’s candidates, adding that, the Police and other security agencies have assured them of adequate security before and during the elections, while also ensuring a level playing ground for all the parties and contestants.
