WE SHALL CONTINUE TO REMAIN IN PDP, BECAUSE IT RECOGNIZED THE PLACE OF THE MINORITIES IN THE POLITY... GOV DICKSON

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson says the State will continue to stand firm by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), no matter the odds as it is the only party that has given the minority a shot at the presidency.

Governor Dickson made the assertion on Wednesday during a meeting he held with political appointees at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Yenagoa, the State capital.

To reciprocate the honour and the recognition accorded the State, as equal stakeholders in the Nigerian polity, the Governor pointed out that, it was imperative to work with the PDP stakeholders across the country to rebuild the PDP with a view to making it a party to reckon with.

While urging the people to turn out in their numbers to cast their votes for the PDP in this weekend’s State House of Assembly polls, he said the party has no reason to lose any seat in the State House of Assembly elections to the opposition.

Governor Dickson, who called on party stalwarts and supporters not to allow anyone to undermine the party, said they should work hard to ensure that, the party wins free, fair and squarely in the coming elections.

Governor Dickson stressed that, “the PDP has kept the Federal power consistently for 16 years. We shall continue to remain in the PDP, because it is the only party that, has recognized us.  Even in these trying times, I call on all stakeholders in the party across the country to join hands to rebuild the party to make it stronger.

“Our message to you all today is that, we should stay the course and fight a good fight.  We are going into another election this Saturday and we want all the 24 seats in the State Assembly to be won by the PDP.  Let it not be said of Bayelsa and of the Ijaw nation that, after one week, we abandoned the party that gave us the presidency.”

He thanked the people for their peaceful disposition and commended President Jonathan for his show of statesmanship, in spite of the irregularities recorded in the Presidential elections, as he conceded defeat for the sake of the unity and stability of the country.

Conveying the appreciation of President Goodluck Jonathan to the people for their abiding support and loyalty, Governor Dickson called on the people to join the government in giving the President a rousing reception after the hand-over date of May 29th.

Speaking earlier, the Chief of Staff Government House, Yenagoa, Rt. Hon. Talford Ongolo had underscored the need for the people to remain peaceful as well as be united and vote massively for PDP to enable the party take the State to the next level.
